Brody Boy Has A Home!
Late last July, one of our long time Members was in a horrific accident with a tractor-trailer on 495. She was taken directly to Tufts in Boston from the scene where she remained for some time, her future uncertain. Her dog, Brody, was home at the time, where he remained for almost 2 days before family was able to get there and care for him. Luckily, they found our contact info among her belongings and called us for help.
Brody had been coming for play dates with David since they were both four months old, was a regular Friday Daycare Member and had Boarded with us before, so even though he was confused, he was really happy to see us. And we were happy to keep him ‘til his Mom came home. There was no way he was going to a shelter. Unfortunately, as time went on it became apparent that even though she missed him and wanted him back, that she would not be able to care for him if and/or when she came home. There was still no way he was going to a shelter.
So, for the last 8 months, Brody’s been Family here at Free Dog. More than just a long-term Boarder, he’s been David’s live-in play-mate, friend to countless sleepover guests and company for our Staff when working the overnights. He’s made tons of friends along the way. Though we’ve known all along that we wouldn’t be keeping him forever, and wanted him to have the home of his own again that he deserved, we weren’t in any hurry to see him go.
Last week Meghan, a friend of Auntie Sarah’s who’s been looking for a dog, came to meet him. She was instantly smitten with our Boy, and brought him home to live with her 2 days later, where he has clearly made himself right at home. It’s somewhat bittersweet. We’re sad for his Mom, but happy for all the time we got to spend with him. Sad because we miss him around here, but happy for both Brody and Meghan, and all the good times they’ll have together. We’re also happy that he’ll still be coming to Daycare with all of his friends every week.
Seriously, who wouldn’t miss this face?
