By now you all know that Mom and Auntie Jen bought us a boat. It's their new obsession. We named her The "Nood", after Jazzy, and we go out on it every chance we get. Have I mentioned they know nothing about boating? At first it was a little scary, cause Auntie Jen likes to go as fast as we can whenever there's big waves. I really like the water, but I was kind of afraid we were going to tip over, or that I'd get bounced overboard.
"Why do you think we bought you a life jacket?"-Jen
As comforting as that is, I've gotta tell you, it's not easy holding yourself steady when you're bouncing over 3 ft. waves at 35 knots.
"35 knots? You don't even know what a knot is, never mind 35 of them. I don't even know if The "Nood" can go 35 knots with her little 20 horsepower motor."-Editor/Mom
From this angle, that motor looks pretty big to me. Our boat's only 11 ft. long and 4 ft. wide, how fast does it need to go? I thought we'd be taking nice, leisurely rides around the lake, but no...it's like a scary Disney ride where we're all holding on for dear life.
"I have to agree, there were a few hair-raising moments that felt like we were out on the open sea."-Editor/Mom
Yeah, at least you have hands and you can hold on to the railings. I get tossed all over the place. I figured out the best thing to do when I see the waves coming, hear the motor rev up, Auntie laugh and Mom say: "Hold on David!" is flatten myself down on the floor, I mean deck.
"You caught on really quick Dave, but you know I always have one free hand on your life jacket. If you go over, I'm going with you."-Editor/Mom
"Aw, come on. You guys sound like you're not having fun."-Jen
"Actually it's Big Fun, especially now that I have a seat cushion."-Editor/Mom
Yeah, I like it, too. And I'm getting my 'sea legs'. I'm just hoping they remember to get some of those grippy strips so I can have some traction.
"Grippy strips, cushions... The only solution is a bigger boat"-Jen
"I knew this was coming."-Editor/Mom
Bigger boat? That'll mean it'll have a bigger motor, right?? Which'll mean it'll go even faster, right???
"Yes, but it'll be a smoother ride, and have more comfy seats, and more room for you to roam around, David. We could even teach you to water ski like that guy we saw doing tricks last week. You'd be even more famous."-Jen
I guess a bigger, more stable boat would be better. Maybe it could have a ladder so I could jump off and go for a swim while we're out on the water. That would be fun. But you're crazy if you think you're strapping me on a pair of those ski things. That guy was nuts!
"Don't worry David, we've all got a lot to learn before any of us attempt any tricks like those. Speaking of learning, I've noticed how you're picking up some boating lingo, but if you want to become a true and trusty First Mate, you'll have to keep working on those sailor knots."-Editor/Mom
Seriously, I don't know how this became 'my' job. You guys are the ones with hands...
